I was a Lego kid. I relished the challenge of assembling each set by the (instruction) book, then tearing it down and building something of my own design. When I got bored with that, the pieces would join the others in my collection—a constantly growing parts bin from which I could craft anything I could imagine. But I realize that isn’t for everyone, and for some, they just want to play with their new toy right out the box. Closer Look: 2022 VW Golf GTI Gets More Power and Revised Chassis, Keeps Its Stick-Shift

The sleek exterior design update for the new 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI comes with a 30-horsepower boost, a revised chassis with sharper steering and snappier handling with minimal understeer, four levels of “driver profile selection,” and a fancier interior with more equipment. The VW Golf R will return to North America when the next GTI premiers here, scheduled for the third quarter of 2021.

VW has confirmed both cars will still come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Barring any delays in response to the global pandemic, both the 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R will launch in the United States and Canada about the same time, the automaker says. VW previewed the eighth-generation Golf GTI in a video conference Wednesday, but didn’t give any details on the more powerful model.
