Local pricing and specifications of the updated 2020 Mercedes-AMG E63 S saloon and estate have been revealed with the cars entering the UK in just one fully-loaded trim level.
Priced at £98,370 for the saloon and £100,370 for the estate, the big Merc is targeted almost perfectly at its rivals from BMW and Audi, which spec-for-spec all hover around the six-figure mark. This is a pretty substantial jump over the £83k price point of the previous E63 S when it first appeared in 2017, but shows the high performance super saloon and estate market adjusting to suit buyer preferences.

As for the changes themselves, they’re founded on the standard E-class’s recent revisions, bringing a new nose, tail and interior tech to rival the newer Audi A6 and also the recently revised BMW 5-series.
At first glance you’ll notice the use of more rounded multibeam LED headlight units, alongside AMG’s now-trademark Panamericana vertical-slat grille, and a somewhat less aggressive overall design. As before, the front wheel arches have been widened compared to those of the standard E-class to accommodate a 27mm wider track, while larger intakes feed the charge coolers that keep the twin-turbo V8 running cool.
At the rear, sharper tail light units extend into the bootlid and redesigned trapezoidal exhaust exits can be had in either a bright chrome, or ‘matt titanium’ finish on the S model. On the saloon, you’ll find a lip spoiler with a new lower diffuser finished in gloss black. A handful of new paint shades are also available for the exterior, including the matt ‘Brilliant Blue Magno’ previously exclusive to the AMG GT range.
Under those swollen arches sit a set of black 20-inch wheels which are standard fit on all UK cars as part of the Night Edition package. Sitting behind them are 390mm six-piston front and 360mm single-piston rear brakes – an optional 402mm front, 360mm rear carbon-ceramic upgrade is also available.
Power from the 4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 remains the same as before: 603bhp and 627lb ft of torque are the headline figures for the S, trailing 13bhp behind the new M5 Competition. Step down to the standard E63, and you receive 563bhp and 553lb ft of torque.
On-paper performance is unchanged, but the figures are impressive nonetheless. Power is sent through a nine-speed wet-clutch automatic transmission to all four wheels for a 3.4sec 0-62mph time in the E63 S saloon, a tenth sooner than in the non-S, and a tenth behind the also recently updated BMW M5 Competition. Top speed comes at 186mph should you opt for the AMG Driver’s package. However, it’ll top out at 155mph without it.
As with the car it replaces, all variants come equipped with a variable all-wheel drive system that is predominantly rear-biased, but takes things a step further by including a drift mode that physically disconnects the front axle. All UK cars also feature trick dynamic engine mounts as standard.
Inside, Merc has upgraded to the latest MBUX infotainment system, paired with a new AMG Performance steering wheel. Previewed in the E-class facelift earlier this year, it can be had in leather, Dinamica microfibre or a combination of both. As you’d expect, it comes equipped with integrated buttons for media controls and even screens for switching drive modes.
Other high-specification inclusions are Nappa leather trim on the seats, Instagram-worthy ambient lighting, twin-12.25” displays and carbonfibre trim inserts – with further use of artico leather on the doors, dash and AMG Performance bucket seats.
UK customer cars will arrive in the Autumn this year alongside the wider E-class range, where we’ll no doubt have quite the triple test ready to see if the E63 can reclaim its super saloon/estate crown from the Audi RS6.
