Rumor has it that Audi will eventually replace the R8 with an EV, but for now, the supercar thrives on V-10 power. For the 2021 model year, Audi is getting rid of the base V-10, which makes 562 hp, leaving the 602 hp variant of the engine as the sole means of motivation. There’s still a chance to snag the less powerful model, though, as a limited-edition 2020 Audi R8 goes on sale this summer. The model combines the base V-10 with a host of upgrades from the more powerful R8 Performance.
For one thing, the appropriately named R8 Limited Edition gets a carbon-fiber front sway bar. This feature, previously reserved for R8 Performance variants, sheds 4.4 pounds of mass. Buyers of the Limited Edition will also enjoy the R8 Performance’s sport exhaust system.
Available as either a coupe or convertible, the 2020 Audi R8 Limited Edition features exclusive 20-inch wheels finished in silver. Red brake calipers complete the look. Audi also gave the side blades and lower trim a healthy dose of carbon fiber. Look for more carbon fiber accents within the cabin, too, as well as Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital instrument display, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and special floor mats.
Audi is making just 30 Limited Editions, most of which are coupes. Fifteen coupes receive a Mugello Blue paint job with a silver interior. Five other coupes don an Avus Silver exterior hue with a black and red interior, and five more get Sonoma Green paint with black and gray innards. Coupes receive a special diamond-stitched faux-suede (Alcantara) headliner. Only five Spyders don the Limited Edition kit—all in Mugello Blue with a silver interior.
So how much will one of these cars cost? The R8 Limited Edition coupe is priced from $188,950, including a gas guzzler tax. Spyders are even more expensive at $198,850.
